When it comes to free work, I don't usually take pictures. I am always on the way to a photograph. A trigger can sometimes be a chance encounter on the Internet, a picture in a book, or a fragment on TV. Once I saw a picture of the Little Miss in Green, and I was immediately captivated by the shape of the twigs that manifest themselves around the flower.
At the local florist I looked for the flower, but apparently it is not a flower you often see in a vase. So I searched the internet again. The only thing I found was seed to grow the flower myself.
I ordered some seed, but it was just after the season. Still, I thought, give it a try.
I could wait a long time, but nothing happened. A year later I tried again, but I started indoors with a propagator. It took a while, but a few leaves managed to wrestle themselves from the ground. So, a little more patience.
While gardening, coincidence suddenly led me to a little damsel in distress. Between the larger plants, low in the shade, stood a little damsel. The damselfly was immediately my favorite model, and she let me photograph her from all sides.
This year the damselfly was doing extremely well. Many flowers adorned my garden, and after blooming, the equally photogenic seed bulb appeared, which dried in many sizes to be an equally photogenic model.
My name is Gerry van Roosmalen, a professional photographer and author. After some travels in the business world, I decided to radically change the helm in 2002 and to fully focus on my passion: photography. Between 2002 and 2004 I visited the fotovakschool in Apeldoorn where I graduated in the courses of portrait and reportage.
In 2006 I decided to study documentary photography. In 2009 my first book was published about a project that I carried out in Greenland: "Why Greenland ..." This book is only available as an i Book.
In 2012 my book "Ode to Iceland" appeared. In this book I combined the images I shot during my various tours in Iceland with texts in which I tried to express my impressions and feelings that I experienced myself when I first faced the spectacular or sometimes just lovely landscapes of Iceland. The english book "Ode to Iceland" can be ordered in the iBook store
In my Webshop I collect the most beautiful images I made during my travels or sometimes just in the studio. If you do not have the right image for your taste, please feel free to contact me. Perhaps my archive with images contains something suitable for your home or business. Gerry@1ivision.nl
