What a beauty, a rare wigwam (Hericium erinaceus) in the hollow of an old tree.
The fruiting body is an edible and medicinal mushroom and can be recognized by its long, hanging spines. It grows almost exclusively high up in old beech trees. Occasionally it can be found on other deciduous trees.
The Wigwam is on a European list of most endangered mushrooms in Europe.
