The white basilica of Montmartre

The Basilique du Sacré-Cœur (Dutch: Sacred Heart Basilica) is a basilica in Paris. It is located on the hill Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement in Paris and is dedicated to the Sacred Heart worship.

The church is particularly notable for its bright white appearance, and prominent location on a hill. To get to the church, one can climb 222 steps or take the Funiculaire de Montmartre (cable car). Once at the top, one has a view of much of Paris.

The Sacré-Cœur is built entirely of travertine, a fairly soft (and somewhat porous) type of stone, native to France's Seine-et-Marne department. Travertine is limestone and when it rains produces a white layer of lime on the outside, keeping the basilica very white in color despite the dirt and soot of the city. Travertine is less resistant to acid rain.

People say that I am one of the most appreciated and renowned post-war art painters from South Limburg. I sell my original works all over the world.
