Anonymous 19th century circle painting brought to the 21st century in this digital collage by poet/librettist and smartphone artist Ruben van Gogh.
Costumes from then and now, with a Muslim woman with a rolling suitcase who has stepped out of the 21st century, right into the 19th. With this, the somewhat old-fashioned painting has been completely pimped up again and can last for years to come.
This is one in a series of pimped up thrift store paintings, most of which live a moribund life there. With this process I give them a second life.
Although working as a lyrical chronicler, sometimes I see things that are not there; I photograph and edit them.
Recurring elements are: carved mannequins (humanoids) and anonymous 19th century paintings. Working from 100cm I come to sign (Nl only).
