I was feeling a bit down with the news of ongoing conflicts in parts of the world. The weight of the suffering of the innocent seemed insupportable and I felt so helpless. I looked up and saw the town walls of Castiglione del Lago in Umbria, Italy and the church spire with cross and church bell tower. I suddenly thought of the hundreds of years that historic architecture had sat looking out over the view. All the conflict, including World War II, the town had seen and yet it had weathered the storm. The buildings and the faith were still constant in a chaotic world. And I realized that this too shall pass. This image is my statement of optimism and a belief in a spirituality that transcends all of us.
