Windmill De Vrijheid in Beesd in the Betuwe, situated on the river Linge, was used by the resistance during the Second World War to send messages via the position of the sails. In commemoration of this, the hitherto nameless windmill was given the name ''De Vrijheid"'' after its renovation in 1968.
