Since 1974 he has been established as an independent photographer. In the years that followed, Henk began to produce various forms of visual art in which photographic techniques played a major role. From 1986 onwards, Henk focused on a different approach to the phenomenon of the image, using painting techniques. In this method of working he found a greater challenge in expressing his inspiration in a much looser, more spontaneous and lively way.

In recent works, including those in oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolour and combined techniques, feelings of emotional expression are reflected more strongly than is possible with photographic techniques. It is therefore justifiable to speak of "I paint where photography stops".
