About the artwork
Something old and something new, and so a piece of history and a piece coming from a newer time. The portrait on the left is clearly from antiquity, a piece of an ancient statue from, say, the ancient Greeks. The portrait on the right is a silhouette trimmed with lace which is from a much later period. Perhaps from the 20th century. Both portraits depict a huge contrast. You can also see that contrast as a progression from antiquity to the present. Although contrast, one would obviously not have existed without the other and so not only do they need each other, but they cannot actually do without each other at all. Hence, then, the portraits merge into each other.
Both portraits are surrounded by flowers, wild meadow flowers to be precise. You will also find bits of text and several structures. In short, there is a lot to discover here. The colours are kept subtle to highlight the textures. The colours used are beige, cream, camel and black.
