About the artwork
In 'The Drive' we see young lady dressed in 1970s clothes and hairstyle behind the wheel of an English car. She seems to be driving in an American environment as seen by both the landscape and the road markings. She looks in her mirror and sees a yellow cab driving behind her.
This is how the story starts and I like to invite the viewer to tell the rest of the story themselves.
In my staged works I try to create the stage from which a story will be told. Since each viewer will see a different story this appeals to many a viewer.
The color red is not very noticeable but it has gotten a little detail from me. I think the contrasts in subjects are easier to see.
For my staged works I am mainly inspired by America, the 50's to 70's and the great style of my great example the Dutch photographer Erwin Olaf.
