A Moment of Reflection

The work depicts a stylised female portrait in which geometric shapes, warm colours and a serene facial expression come together. The closed eyes lend the image a calm, almost meditative atmosphere. The face is not modelled in the traditional sense, but is constructed from overlapping planes in cream, soft pink, orange, grey-blue and red. As a result, the portrait strikes a balance between figurative and abstract art.

The strong diagonal movement in the composition is striking. The dark area at the top cuts across the head like a broad shadow, whilst a deep red shape runs down along the neck. This is contrasted by the large light area on the right, which falls across the face almost like a veil. These forms make the portrait both recognisable and enigmatic.

Small details lend the work extra character. An extremely thin black line forms an elongated earring on the left, whilst the eyebrow consists of several separate lines. The closed eyelids are rendered in bold black and contrast with the soft areas of colour surrounding them. The subtle grainy texture also prevents the composition from feeling entirely graphic.

The whole piece evokes a moment of inner peace and self-reflection: as if the outside world has momentarily vanished, leaving only colour, silence and thoughts.
