Abstract landscape in glass

This abstract ‘Landscape in Glass’ painting captures a picturesque countryside scene inside a rounded glass bottle topped with a wide, flat glass stopper. A narrow stream winds through the centre of an open meadow, flanked by dense beds of orange-red poppies on one side and pink, purple and yellow flowers on the other. Further afield, rolling green hills stretch to the horizon, dotted here and there with scattered trees and a small, solitary cottage in the distance. The entire scene is built up from thick, visible brushstrokes, giving the bottle a painterly, almost Impressionist texture.

That sumptuous interplay of poppy red and soft pastel colours, captured in a single bottle, lends this still life a rich, refined air. It is precisely that painterly texture and the clever idea of capturing an entire countryside in glass that make this piece an original showpiece that attracts attention in any room. Even the loose brushstrokes on each flower and every blade of grass are clearly distinguishable.

The scene exudes the tranquillity of the countryside, with a little stream quietly finding its way through the flowers, far from any hustle and bustle. That painterly style lends the whole composition a nostalgic feel, as if it were a memory of a day that felt just a little warmer than the others. Against the soft, blurred background on the table, the vibrant colours inside the bottle stand out all the more. This rural scene brings the tranquillity and colour of the countryside close to home, without having to step outside. Available on various materials and in several sizes, the painterly texture remains just as compelling on any scale.
