Auric Horizon

Annette Schmucker’s abstract painting “Auric Horizon” unfolds before the viewer as a vast, ethereal landscape that conveys not so much a specific scene as an atmosphere of light, space and tranquil expansiveness. In flowing transitions, ochre and gold tones dominate the composition, evoking sun-warmed plains, dry earth or the glow of a late afternoon, in which the light glides softly across the surface. These warm fields of colour seem to expand gently and merge into one another, creating an impression of depth without defining clear horizons or boundaries. Amidst this, shades of turquoise emerge, appearing as cool inclusions and evoking associations with water, distant shadows or a shimmering sky. The forms remain deliberately reduced and abstract, often merely hinted at, so that the landscape can be sensed rather than clearly recognised. It is precisely this openness that lends the painting a calm, almost meditative quality, within which the eye can move freely. A sense of an endless horizon emerges, one that begins to shimmer in the light whilst simultaneously radiating a deep, silent expanse.
