BMW R 1300 RT Touring at Golden Hour

I painted this BMW R 1300 RT at the moment the day begins to let go. The sun hangs low behind the hills, and the sky breaks open in gold, amber, and orange, pushed against cool streaks of lavender and slate blue. For me, that tension between warm and cold is where the feeling lives.

The winding road pulls the eye from the foreground into the distance, flanked by autumn foliage in deep red, rust, and gold. I built the rolling hills, the asphalt, and the clouds with thick impasto brushwork, a technique where paint is laid on so heavily that every stroke keeps its texture. I wanted you to sense the movement, almost hear the wind.

The silver metallic motorcycle catches the last light along its fairing, windscreen, and boxer engine. Its leather-clad rider leans gently forward, helmet glinting, fully present in the curve ahead. Deep violet shadows anchor both to the road.

This painting is about freedom and adventure, but also about something quieter. On the open road, we leave the noise behind and meet ourselves again. I believe many of us know that longing. Perhaps, standing before this work, you will recognize a journey of your own.
