About "Cityscape of Rijssen in red orange and green...."

About the artwork

Rijssen is a small town in the east of the Netherlands. It is best known for its large fabric market, one of the largest in the country. It is almost the only town that has its shops open on Monday mornings, because that's the market day. It is pleasantly busy then. The church is in the background in this work of art, but it does have a very important role here; it belongs to the Bible belt. It has no less than 14 churches, most of which are Orthodox Protestant churches, a youth church, and a few Catholic churches, there is also a large Reformation church. The latter churchgoers are often dressed very conservatively with long skirts and hats. Despite these costumes, which of course not everyone wears, Rijssen has moved with the times and has a lively shopping centre. It has fairly modern architecture and is often pleasantly crowded. There is also plenty of greenery in the town. The orange in this cityscape can be traced back to the royal family, which is highly respected in Rijssen. The colours of this work of art can therefore be traced back to this, namely red, orange, green, beige, turquoise and blue.
