Falling into Water Summer Leap

I painted Falling into Water to hold onto a single, weightless heartbeat of summer. She is the woman I hope to become at any age, arms flung wide, feet lifting from the warm planks of the dock as she throws herself into the sea. I gave her a red-orange swimsuit so her joy would burn against the cool blues and teals of the water, a small flame of courage mid-air.

The fisherman watches, frozen in his quiet routine, mouth open in disbelief. I love him too. He is the part of us that hesitates, that stays seated while life leaps. Between them lives the whole story I wanted to tell.

I worked the paint thickly, letting each impasto stroke catch the light the way sun scatters across moving waves. The straw hat and canvas sneakers she left behind whisper of a decision made in an instant. Beyond them, the horizon softens into haze, endless and forgiving.

For me, this canvas is a gentle question we all share: when summer calls, will we jump? I hope you feel the splash before it lands, and remember your own moments of falling freely.
