A colourful street scene from a few summers ago, spotted in Rotterdam's Blijdorp district. A fine piece of "guerrilla gardening", as all these flowers do not shoot up without human intervention. At the same time, I suspect that some of the vegetation did end up in this spot spontaneously. Even between the grey paving stones, the weeds (let me just call them that; I'm not making any value judgements) are starting to take root.
What species are we seeing? With my far from complete plant knowledge, I would say the purple flowers are malva, but I also see a poppy and daisies. The tree kept company in its tree bed these months looks like a birch to me, in the background we also see some ferns. I gladly leave further determination to the experts.
