Frieda the Great Spotted Woodpecker &, Mayor Markus

In the exclusive series “Black Forest Mythical Creatures: The Character Edition”, two more prominent residents of the Upper Black Forest are introduced: Frieda Tortenheber, the spotted woodpecker, and Mayor Markus vom Dachsberg. This charming duo embodies the region’s warm hospitality and deep connection to its culinary traditions.

Mayor Markus vom Dachsberg, a stately badger in fine traditional dress, represents the steadfastness and cosy pride of his community. Dressed in a traditional waistcoat with silver buttons and a distinctive hat, he comes across as an old-school official who always has an open ear for his fellow forest dwellers. At his side, Frieda Tortenheber ensures life’s sweet moments. As an elegant female great spotted woodpecker in a delicate, lace-trimmed blouse and a magnificent hat, she proudly presents a genuine Black Forest gateau – the region’s culinary flagship.

The deliberate isolation against a neutral white background allows every detail to stand out brilliantly: from the fine lines of the plumage and the texture of the traditional waistcoat to the glossy cherries on the cake. This character study combines artisanal precision with modern digital design and a generous dose of humour. An excellent work of art for collectors seeking something special in Black Forest design and who appreciate both the attention to detail and the joy of indulgence.
