Prismatic planes

In the work "Prismatic Plains", Annette Schmucker creates a fascinating combination of infinite expanse and a spectacular play of colours reminiscent of the refraction of light in a prism.

The composition is characterised by an extremely low horizon, which gives the sky an enormous space and conveys a feeling of boundless freedom. A chromatic spectrum unfolds across the vast plains, in which soft blue and turquoise tones mingle with lively accents of yellow, orange and pink. Schmucker masterfully uses her oil-resin technique to superimpose transparent layers of colour to create a shimmering, prismatic effect.

In the lower part of the picture, the landscape tends to be in calm, darker earth tones and cool violet, which gives the glowing firmament a stable base. The vertical light reflections stretch across the horizontal plane like delicate veils, blurring the boundary between earth and atmosphere. The tactile texture created by impasto applications of colour in the foreground is particularly striking and forms an exciting contrast to the smooth, glazed expanse of the background.

The light does not appear to come from a single source, but is present in the entire air mass of the picture, as if the atmosphere itself were dissolving into rainbow colours. Shadowy structures on the horizon hint at distant landmarks, but remain vague in their abstraction so as not to constrict the expanse. The entire work radiates an optimistic, almost celebratory mood that captures the moment after a storm or the dawn of a clear, colourful day. It invites the viewer to let their gaze wander over the "prismatic planes" and find peace in the depths of space.
