The skyline of the Kop van Zuid in Rotterdam with large clouds painted and drawn with dark ink.
For this work I used a photo taken from Rotterdam south as a starting point. Especially the high contrast of the thin ink with the resulting ink drips appealed to me.
Because I found the work too black and white after the drawing I used some watercolor to create some texture in the sky and water.
I'm not a Rotterdammer myself but I have lived in the Rotterdam area for many years so it is not so strange to use this beautiful and very photogenic city in my work. Especially the part of Rotterdam which is the main protagonist here as well, namely the Kop van Zuid and the Erasmus Bridge, is beautiful to see. The old Holland America line building and hotel New York combined with so much modern architecture is a pearl to behold. I am therefore regularly on or around the west quay or park quay to photograph this direction.
For this work, however, the view from the Buizenpark towards the Erasmus Bridge was used as a basis.

In the distant past I worked a lot with photoshop, so when I started using photoshop more often as a hobby it was only natural that I could add something to my photos.
Nowadays my work relies heavily on the use of image editing software to finish both my photographs and my digital drawings and paintings.
If I can't photograph or draw/paint my subject there is always the 3d modeling software which makes just about anything possible.
On my website ArjenRoos.nl you can find more information and a large number of works are highlighted.
