Sand and Sea: An Abstract Panorama

The ‘Sand and Sea’ abstract panorama painting flows across the canvas like a undulating mass of paint, in which sand and sea merge without a distinct horizon. Thick, textural brushstrokes in purple, deep purple and navy blue form the upper section of the work, whilst gold and sandy yellow break through like a streak of light. Towards the bottom, the image shifts to creamy, frothy-white tones and a grainy, sandy texture reminiscent of a beach’s edge. The paint has clearly been applied in a relief-like manner, giving the composition a rich, three-dimensional texture even when viewed up close.

These rich layers of colour and the rough, tactile surface lend this scene an expressive, painterly power. It is precisely these deep colour nuances and the free, unpredictable texture that make this print an atmospheric work of art that instantly sets the tone in any room. Up close, you continually discover new nuances in the paint, which, from a distance, blend together to form a single whole.

The image evokes the power and movement of the sea, without depicting it literally. The undulating textures are reminiscent of splashing water and shifting sand, whilst the colours add a sense of depth and space. It is precisely because of its abstract nature that the image leaves room for your own associations – one moment you see a storm, the next a sense of calm.

This abstract seascape brings character and movement to an interior that calls for a strong focal point. The work is available on various materials and in a range of sizes, ensuring that the texture and depth of colour are shown to their best advantage in the chosen location.
