Snakes around a flower

The ‘Snakes Around a Flower’ painting depicts an elegant, relief-like ornament in which two stylised, patina-coloured snakes wind their way around a central stem, their heads turned towards one another like a classical caduceus symbol. Above the snakes, a large, sun-like flower unfolds, with sharply pointed, green-blue petals arranged radiantly around a golden circle. Beneath the snakes, broad, curved leaves grow in the same weathered turquoise-green hue, set against a weathered, ochre-coloured background with an elegant border full of delicate relief motifs.

Weathered turquoise-green hues against a warm, ochre-coloured background, encapsulated in a sculptural and symbolic design, give this photo print an artisanal, almost archaeological presence that lends depth to any space. The contrast between the richly embossed, patinated metallic quality of the snakes and leaves and the flatter, weathered background creates a rich interplay of textures, whilst every scale and every leaf is rendered with meticulous precision. This artisanal detailing lends the composition a tangible, timeless depth.

This depiction draws on the ancient symbolism of the snake as a sign of healing, wisdom and vitality, interwoven here with the flower as a symbol of blossoming and renewal. By having the snakes coil around the central stem within the radiant floral form, a meaningful interplay between danger and growth is created. Nothing in the composition appears random; every element reinforces the symbolic power of the whole. For a classical, artisanal or mystical space where symbolism and craftsmanship are valued, this artwork is a meaningful addition. Available in various materials and multiple sizes, the expressive power of this design remains compelling on any desired scale.
