Welcome to our new life as grandparents: abstract photography with a mathematical twist
As proud grandparents, we have opened a new chapter in our lives, and what could be better than capturing this adventure through the lens of our camera? Our photography tells the story of this special journey, with the theme "our new life as grandparents". We capture everything related to this, but without portraying our grandchildren themselves. It is the small, intimate moments, the details and the changes in our daily lives that inspire us to capture them.
Our photos are not just any photos. They are abstract works of art that contain a deep layer of mathematics - from patterns and shapes to the surprising symmetries that occur in life. Each image is a visual journey that captures the beauty of the everyday things around us, with a touch of mathematical precision.
With this series, we aim to combine the power of abstraction and the magic of numbers and shapes, uniquely capturing the wonders of our new life as grandparents. Each photo tells a story, evokes emotions and invites reflection. We invite you to travel with us in this world of geometry, beauty and love.

ABSTRACT PHOTOGRAPHY @OPAANDOMAART
We have been proud grandparents of our first grandchild since early 2024. From that capacity, Gerhard has resumed his old love for (abstract) photography. He photographs everything to do with being a grandparent, except our grandchild himself (well, he sometimes photographs them but never publishes them here). His best photos can now also be found and ordered here, of course in a separate album set up for this purpose (Photos).
SUSTAINABLE ART @HOU2USE
Unique, affordable, personalised and sustainable art, portraits and gifts handmade with paint remnants on old, used or discarded waste wood.
We are Gerhard van Dijkhuizen and Colet Scheper. Together, we came up with the concept hou2use. Based on a photo, we invent, design and make unique, personal, affordable and above all sustainable art on wood. We are strongly committed to sustainability, which is why we prefer to make portraits of people or (domestic) animals with paint on used or discarded waste wood.
We are most fond of commissioned art. We then devise and create, together with you and especially for you, a custom-made work of art or portrait on waste wood.
Thanks to our special collaboration with Werk aan de Muur, you can also reproduce our unique work in almost any format and on almost any material!
