Tuscan wine, Italy

Tuscan wine is among the most iconic and highly regarded wines in the world. The region of Tuscany, with its rolling hills, cypress trees and sunny climate, offers the perfect conditions for viticulture. The area is primarily known for its full-bodied, complex red wines, in which tradition and innovation go hand in hand.

The undisputed king of Tuscany is the Sangiovese grape. This blue grape forms the basis of almost all the well-known Tuscan classics.

Wines made from this grape are characterised by high acidity and firm tannins, as well as typical aromas of cherries, red berries and herbs, developing notes of leather and tobacco over time.

The major wine styles of Tuscany

• Chianti Classico:
• Brunello di Montalcino:
• Vino Nobile di Montepulciano:

Although reds dominate, Tuscany also produces successful white wines. Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a fresh, crisp white wine with notes of almond. In addition, the region produces the famous Vin Santo (holy wine), a rich, syrupy dessert wine made from dried grapes, which is traditionally enjoyed with cantuccini (almond biscuits) to dip into the wine.
