Hello, my name is Erik. Originally from the far north of the Netherlands, I currently live in Belgium. By day, I tinker with bacteria in a laboratory as a synthetic biology researcher. This means I do a lot of 'working with my head' during the day. Although I really enjoy that, I feel photography gives me a nice counterbalance. Not that you don't have to think in photography, of course. But I can lose myself and the etrack of time for hours when I am photographing 'in the field'.
That 'field' can actually be anywhere. I love wide views, being completely alone, feeling small in a grand, impressive landscape. During the day, but certainly also under a clear starry night sky. On the other hand, I also love walking around a busy and bustling city. Being the anonymous me, observing people going about their daily lives, minding their own business. Landscapes, street photography. Architecture or the occasional portrait, vibrant colours or black and white. Abstract, long shutter speed, night photography, ... If at the end of the day I come home with a photo I am proud of, my day is a success. And if others appreciate the photos too, it's even better. The only thing I almost never focus on are animals, I don't have enough patience for that I think. So you won't easily find a Scottish Highlander among my photos ;-)
