On and off for 75 years, I have walked the same Dorset shores, watched the same ancient light dance across Jurassic cliffs, felt the same wild weather that has shaped this coast for millennia. My abstract expressionistic paintings and photographs are not mere representations – they are distilled memories, accumulated moments - the essence of what it means to truly know a place.
Each piece captures something that can only come from a lifetime of observation: the particular quality of West Dorset light filtering through sea mist, the raw energy of storms against chalk cliffs, the subtle shift in colours as seasons turn along England's most dramatic coastline.
From my Dorset studio, where Roman legions once marched and (from just outside my window) Victorian steamers first carried passengers to the Channel Islands where I grew up, I transform decades of coastal experience into contemporary abstract expressions. My pictures contain the sediment of multiple artistic lifetimes - the precise eye of a photographer, the dramatic instincts of a theatre director, the technical mastery of a print specialist.
