About ‘Becoming — First Light Kin’ by Manuela Dekkers

This work depicts not an animal, not movement, but a field in transition. Grasses rise from the mist as the first light of day cautiously moves across the landscape. The sun is still soft, almost reserved, as if it respects the space in which something new is forming.

Becoming depicts the moment before meaning. It is the stage in which direction has not yet been determined and form has not yet been chosen. Everything is present, but nothing is forced. The fine lines of the grass, the mist and the warm light create an atmosphere of openness and expectation — a landscape that listens rather than speaks.

Within the First Light Kin collection, this work represents the beginning itself. Where the other works show the early stages of life, Becoming shows the bedrock in which that life can arise. It is a visual resting point, a breathing space in which potential can gather.

This artwork invites you to slow down and observe. It reminds us that growth is not always visible, and that some phases take place beneath the surface. A tranquil, contemplative work that opens up a space — for silence, reflection and the confidence that becoming can begin without haste.
