About "Bighorn Sheep near the water"

About the artwork

These two animals belong to the breed of bighorn sheep. It is one of the most spotted animal in the Rocky Mountains. You can see a male and a female.

The Bighorn Sheep gets its name from the large black curved horns of the male rams into a curl behind the ears to walk behind the cheeks, and can be 80 cm long. The weight of these horns are sometimes as heavy as their entire skeleton, which is very heavy to have on your head. If they are broken or are too long, they scour their horns against the rocks to make them shorter. Because the horns are so heavy sheep have thick, strong neck. The Rams are medium sized, over 1 m high and 1.80 m long. The females are slightly smaller and have smaller and more slender horns. The wild sheep live in the mountains. They are very good climbers and they live on cliffs, slopes, ridges and canyons. Because of their need they can climb steep rocks with ease and jumping rock to rock. They usually sleep in a cave or on a ledge. Bighorn Sheeps be approx. 15 years.
