About "Bridge over the Oresund between Malmö and Copenhagen, in the evening"

About the artwork

The Öresund Bridge forms the link between Copenhagen and Malmö. The largest span of this cable-stayed bridge is 490 metres. The highest pylon is 204 metres. The entire link across the Sound consists of a double-deck bridge (motorway above, railway below) almost 8 kilometres long on the Swedish side; the artificial island of Peberholm ("Pepper Island", so named as an allusion to the neighbouring naturally formed Saltholm, "Salt Island") with a length of 4 kilometres where motorway and railway will be side by side; and a 4-kilometre long tunnel, the Drogdentunnel on the Danish side. Construction began on 16 September 1993 and the cost amounted to some'3 billion. The bridge-tunnel combination was built to give an economic boost to the Copenhagen-Malmö region (Öresund region), thus counterbalancing the EU's tendency to seek its importance increasingly southwards. It also reduced travel time from Copenhagen to the Danish island of Bornholm by about three hours. View of the Öresund Bridge from the marina at Kastrup, the suburb near Copenhaven where the airport is also located. The exposure time of around eight minutes also shows several light trails from landing aircraft. This photo was taken on a Summer evening in 2023.
