Colourful glass flower panorama

This colourful glass floral panorama painting depicts a flower unfurled to its fullest, with each petal appearing to be made of iridescent glass. The petals spread across the full width of the picture, their edges irregular and jagged. Long golden stamens rise from the centre, and the deep black surrounding them makes the flower appear to float, detached from everything else.

What makes this work so captivating is that it contains no single fixed colour. Across the petals, bands of magenta, turquoise, green and gold blend into one another, like oil on water or a soap bubble in the sun. Where the glass is thicker, the colour deepens to almost black; where it thins, it brightens intensely. Fine cracks and fissures run through the leaves like veins, revealing that this material was once broken. The dark stem at the base holds the whole piece together in a surprisingly understated way.

' , such an explosion of colour against so much black calls for a calm wall where nothing else competes for attention. Above a sofa, in a modern hall or in a workspace, the piece does exactly what it’s meant to do. For those who love flowers but aren’t keen on the usual floral still life, this is an attractive alternative. This flower changes colour the moment you take a step to the side.
