Copper mineral stone panorama

The ‘Copper Mineral Stone Panorama’ painting depicts a rough chunk of copper ore set against a completely black background. The stone is dark brown to almost black on the outside, but its surface is dotted with copper-coloured crystals that catch the light and glow with a warm reddish-gold hue.

It is this speckled effect that makes the rock so fascinating. In some places, the crystals are small and scattered like grains; elsewhere, they form large, angular patches that gleam like metal. In the top right-hand corner, a cluster of elongated crystals lies close together and glows with an almost pink hue, whilst the rough outer surface on the left remains dull and earthy. The contrast between the dull matrix and those glistening inclusions shows how metal is trapped in nature before it is ever mined. Beneath the stone, a soft reflection lies on the dark surface.

These warm copper tones set against so much darkness call for a calm wall free from distractions. The work is shown to its best advantage above a sideboard, in an office or against a minimalist wall. Anyone drawn to geology, to metal or to sculptures that focus purely on matter will find something to their liking here. A stone you almost want to pick up to feel how heavy it is.
