Cores of burning amber

The work "Cores of Burning Amber" by Annette Schmucker is a powerful, abstract composition that impresses with its intense luminosity and tactile depth.
The painting is dominated by a glowing centre in fiery orange, red and gold tones that look like liquid resin or glowing lava. These eponymous "cores" seem to glow from within and form the energetic centrepiece of the painting. In contrast to this are the outer areas, in which darker, earthy nuances and cool blue or grey tones soften the warmth.
Schmucker again works here with her special mixed technique of oil and resin, which gives the surface a glass-like lustre and an enormous three-dimensionality. The layers of colour are partially transparently superimposed, allowing the light to penetrate deep into the painting. The use of palette knife techniques creates relief-like structures that lend the work an almost three-dimensional presence.
The composition dispenses with clear lines and instead relies on flowing transitions and dynamic bursts of colour. The result is the impression of a cosmic event or a microscopic view into the interior of a gemstone. The vertical and horizontal accents keep the energetic centre in an exciting balance. Overall, the picture conveys an atmosphere of intense passion and creative elemental force. It invites the viewer to find their own associations of warmth, light and matter in the abstraction.
