Corsair Over Restless Seas

When I set my brush to this canvas, I wanted to feel the roar of the engine in my own chest. Airplanes have thrilled me since I was a boy, and the F4U Corsair remains my favorite. Those inverted gull wings are pure sculpture in the air, and I painted them bending down and away just as they carve the sky. I let the propeller dissolve into a spinning blur, because motion is the soul of this machine. Behind it, I flooded the sky with golden backlit clouds, that warm glow lifting the aircraft like a hero returning home.

Below, I churned the ocean with restless blues and emerald greens, whitecaps tumbling under the light. On the flight deck, my crew waits, one arm raised in welcome. I kept them loose and gestural, small human hearts beneath a giant of steel.

I built the whole scene with thick impasto strokes, piling paint so you can almost touch the wind. The warm and cool contrast, gold against deep navy, gives the piece its pulse. This is my tribute to courage, to craft, and to the pure, breathtaking beauty of flight. I hope you feel it soar.
