André van der Meulen Profile picture The Terschelling drowning house used to be a rescue operation for stranded skippers on the eastern part of the island. The castaways could then shelter in this house in bad weather. It was a very crucial place, as the sea around Terschelling could and can be very rough, so it was very common that there were shipwrecks in this area. The stranded sailors could spend the night in the house until the storm passed.
