F 14 Ascension Over the Nimitz

Every time I lift my brush to canvas, I feel the same pull I've known since boyhood, that unshakable love of flight. This painting is my answer to that call. Here, an F-14 Tomcat, marked "110," tears away from the deck of the USS Nimitz and climbs into a sky I built from molten gold and burning orange. I wanted the light to feel alive.

I worked the paint thick, layering impasto strokes so you can almost touch the ridges of cloud and the shimmer of metal catching that final sun. The Jolly Rogers insignia on the tail is a quiet tribute, a nod to the pilots who fly these machines with such courage. Condensation trails curl behind the wings like ribbons of breath, and I chased them across the canvas to capture pure motion.

The diagonal composition matters most to me. The Tomcat rises to the upper right, defying gravity, while the carrier anchors us below, small and steady on a restless sea. That tension between weight and lift is what flight means to me. It is freedom, struggle, and beauty in one heartbeat. I hope you feel that same rush of ascent when you stand before it.
