F-4 Phantom II Ascending

I have always felt that airplanes carry more than metal and fuel; they carry longing. When I painted this F-4 Phantom II, I wanted to hold that feeling in my hands. Each stroke of thick, layered paint became a small act of devotion. The impasto ridges catch the light the way memory catches a moment we cannot quite let go.

Look how the jet climbs, steep and unhesitating, its Navy gray and white body rising against a sky burning with ochre and burnt orange. Below, the ocean churns dark and restless, and the aircraft carrier steadies itself through the swell. I set the horizon low on purpose, so we look up, so the aircraft feels heroic and alive.

I lingered over the twin-engine intakes, the missile rails beneath the wings, the trails of exhaust smoke unspooling behind. These details matter to me because they hold a story of courage and departure.

Painting this Phantom reminds me why I love these machines. They speak of resilience, of the quiet strength we find when we choose to rise. I hope, standing before it, you feel that lift too, that shared breath of wonder.
