The sun has just risen and casts a golden glow over the landscape of the Hatertse vennen near Nijmegen. The morning has gold in it was certainly true this time! It is almost windless and the water works like a mirror in this beautiful landscape. The Hatertse vennen at its most beautiful. This nature reserve near Nijmegen is a popular place to photograph the sunrise. At the end of the summer the heather starts to bloom purple, giving the landscape a beautiful glow.Hatertse en Overasseltse Vennen is a fen area of about 520 hectares in the municipalities Heumen and Wijchen, Gelderland province. The area consists of about twenty named fens and the surrounding river dune, heathland and forest area. The area lies southwest of Nijmegen. Once this area, southwest of Nijmegen, was created by the Waal and the Maas. Both rivers are now some distance away, but because of the river clay they left behind you can now enjoy the more than 20 fens.
