Fluffy flower in a warm glow

About this work:

In this macro photograph, you look right through the fluffy head of a faded cotton-grass flower. Low sunlight filters in from the side through the delicate seed heads, colouring them in warm shades of terracotta, ochre and soft beige. What begins as a botanical detail when viewed up close becomes, when enlarged, an almost abstract landscape of lines, stars and a soft haze. I created this piece because transience appears so light and graceful here: a single breath of wind and the image ceases to exist. Hung on the wall, this print brings tranquillity and warmth to a rustic, natural or modern interior; it looks lovely in a bedroom, hallway or living room.

About Jeroen Berendse:

In my day job, I’m a marketer. That means listening carefully to and observing customers, and using that knowledge to devise relevant solutions. As a photographer, I actually do the same thing, with the difference that I mainly listen closely to myself.

Photography is a way of telling a story. Captured in the perfect still image. A good photograph transports you in your mind to a special place in the world, an event that makes you smile or sets your creative mind at work. And because this is such a personal experience, the same photograph evokes a unique experience and feeling in everyone – both the photographer and the viewer.
