Ford Capri on a Golden Mountain Road

When I first sketched this crimson red Ford Capri, I wasn't just painting a car. I was painting a memory I believe many of us share: the open road, the window down, and the feeling that the whole world waits beyond the next bend.

I built the surface with thick impasto brushwork, letting each stroke keep its own ridge of paint so the light could catch it. The Capri turns toward you in a confident three-quarter view. Its chrome bumpers and grille glint as the golden-hour sun strikes the hood and roof. Behind it, slender cypress trees rise like sentinels, while the winding road draws your eye toward the horizon.

The rolling ochre hills glow with amber and burnt orange. In the distance, blueish-purple mountains rest beneath a dramatic sky of gold, cream, and soft gray. For me, the painting breathes in that contrast between warm and cool colors. The warmth speaks of closeness and memory, and the cool tones whisper of what still lies ahead.

This work is about nostalgia and freedom, and also about the journeys that connect us. I hope it invites you to remember your own road and the people who traveled it beside you.
