About "Gaillardia Aristata Flower"

by Iris Holzer Richardson

About the artwork

Gaillardia aristata or Bee Bold is a ground covering bright yellow and orange flower blooming from Spring to Fall. They are about the size of a quarter large and grow in clusters. We have them in our garden to attract beneficial insects. Gaillardia aristata is a North American species of flowering plants in the sunflower family known by the common names common blanket flower and common gaillardia. This perennial wildflower is widespread across much of North America, from Yukon east to Québec and south as far as California, Arizona, Illinois, and Connecticut, although it may be naturalized rather than native in parts of that range. It is also naturalized in scattered locations in Europe, Australia, and South America.

The view of this photograph is at eye-level angle. This gives the viewer the feeling that they are looking directly into Gaillardia Aristata Flower.
The atmosphere of this floral is that of sitting or laying under a tree in the shade on a cool Spring morning. It has a sense of peace and quiet.

Macro photography allows me to get close and intimate with my subject matter. It shows the beauty easily overlooked due to our busy lifestyles. My artwork gives the viewer a sense of calm, peace, and relaxation. A reprieve from daily stresses.

As a photographer who comes from the days of film, I do minimal post-processing. Much like I did in the traditional darkroom. I want the viewer to feel like they are right there where my photograph was taken.
