Honeybee Cluster on Honeycomb Frame on a sunny Spring day. The beekeeper is having their first inspection in Spring. The hive made it through the winter strong and the honeycombs are filled. The job of the beekeeper is to keep the honeybee hive healthy. Pests such as hive beetles and mites can kill a colony. One honeycomb frame by one is gently removed and inspected. This frame was damaged due to the honeybees building it up too thick. That is not a problem as the worker bees go right back to repairing the honeycomb.
The macro lens allows me to get fairly close to the honeybees. As long as they are not agitated and busy preparing the honeycomb there is no real danger of me to being stung. Nature images such as this one of our beehives give you an inside to the working of the honeybee hive.
The view is above the honeycomb at about 45 degrees allowing you to see the top and side of the hive frame. This macro work was photographed in the early afternoon on a sunny Spring day in New Jersey. There is a sense of quiet and peace.
