Japanese koi carp abstract panorama

This abstract panorama of Japanese koi carp depicts two ornamental carp swimming through the water, rendered in expressive, loose brushstrokes of deep orange, creamy white and black. The fish almost blend into their dark surroundings, where splashes and drips of paint evoke a sense of movement and flow. The combination of sharp details, such as the contours of the scales and fins, with fluid, abstract transitions gives the work a vibrant, painterly depth. The dark colour palette in the background enhances the glow of the orange tones, making the koi almost light up within the image.

With a dynamic mix of warm orange and red tones, expressive brushstrokes and a dark base colour, the result is a photo print that feels both soothing and energetic.

The inspiration for this piece lies in the Japanese tradition of koi symbolism, in which the fish are synonymous with good fortune, perseverance and prosperity, whilst the expressive painting technique lends a modern, Western twist to this centuries-old motif.

For an atmospheric, warm space where Eastern influences and expressive art come together, this artwork forms a striking focal point and is available in various materials and sizes.
