Deze molen werd in de Tweede Wereldoorlog gebruikt door het verzet om boodschappen te versturen via de stand van de wieken. Ter herdenking hiervan heeft de tot dan toe naamloze molen na de renovatie in 1968 de naam ''De Vrijheid'' gekregen.
