Panhard CD at Sunset Among Cypresses

When I paint, I often return to the roads I have never truly left behind. In this piece, a cream-colored Panhard CD rests on a gravel pull-off as the sun sinks low behind the hills. I wanted the little French coupe to feel less like a machine and more like a traveler pausing to breathe.

The last light spills across its curved fastback and chrome trim, catching the roofline in a thin halo of gold. Around it, tall cypress trees stand like quiet guardians, their edges glowing while their shadows stretch long and violet across the stones. A rustic stone wall follows the road as it bends gently toward rolling hills in the hazy blue distance, inviting you to wonder where the journey leads next.

I built the sky with sweeping strokes of amber, pale yellow, and soft violet. Thick impasto, paint laid on so heavily that every brushstroke stays visible, carries the warmth of the moment. For me, this painting holds the romance of mid-century European road travel, when every detour felt like a discovery.

Perhaps you remember a road like this, too. In that shared memory, I believe we meet, each of us carrying our own sunset home.
