Beautiful panorama of Venice, with a view of the old town and the Canale della Giudecca. The island of Giudecca can be seen in an arch to the left.
The photo was taken from the bell tower of the basilica San Giorgio Maggiore on the island of the same name. The large dome at the bottom left of the photo, together with the buildings around it, also belong to this basilica.
From the 63-meter-high bell tower you can look in all directions and admire the old town and the other islands of Venice. It is also very nice to see the liveliness of the boats on the water from there.
Some of the iconic buildings that you can see in the photo are, first of all, the Campanile di San Marco. This is the 98.5 meter high bell tower that stands on St. Mark's Square and that you can see above the city on the right in the photo. The large building to the right of it is the Doge's Palace, where the doge (the head of state) used to live and rule the republic of Venice. If you follow the buildings in the photo to the left, you will reach the domes of the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute a little to the left of the center. The church is located at the point between the Grand Canal and the Canale della Giudecca.
There is much more to see and it is more than worthwhile to take a look from the bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore. Do pay attention if you are there on the hour, the bells are still rung, so earplugs are recommended ...
I enjoy taking pictures of nature, from colorful flowers to the vast landscapes of Scotland and Norway. Photos of European cities can also be found in my shop. Whatever photos they are, I create them with the idea that they really add atmosphere to your home or workplace.
