Petrol and Gold

This abstract portrait of a woman depicts a tranquil face in which figurative beauty and expressive abstraction merge. The closed eyes and slightly raised chin lend the work a serene, almost dreamlike quality. The face is largely composed of white and various shades of grey, whilst deep black areas, petrol blue and gold provide a powerful and luxurious contrast.

Surrounding the face unfolds a dynamic landscape of broad brushstrokes, scraped paint, splashes and irregular textures. As a result, the portrait appears to emerge partly from the abstract background whilst simultaneously dissolving back into it. Particularly striking are the fine vertical golden lines to the right of centre. They form a sleek, almost graphic element in contrast to the free, painterly textures and run across the face like a transparent golden curtain. The golden lips also serve as a subtle focal point and enhance the elegant appearance.

Petrol-coloured areas appear amidst the black, white and grey, lending the work an unexpected depth. The combination of soft facial features with rough, expressive paint textures creates a compelling balance between vulnerability and strength.

This artwork combines modern portraiture, abstract art and feminine elegance. A striking centrepiece for a modern, industrial or hotel-chic interior, where mystery, tranquillity and luxury converge.
