About the artwork

Planet 36 is one of my most ambitious recent projects, using a mix of different techniques to create a vivid and visually appealing collage world. Although I usually leave the story to the viewer, I now feel compelled to share some insights about the mysterious protagonist who struggles to fully reveal himself.

This artwork revolves around a man dressed in a mackintosh walking through the streets on his way to work, his head bowed. The work features snippets of his musings during this journey, particularly about the pressures of making a career and accumulating wealth. These themes're symbolised by the gold elements representing prosperity, the newspaper clippings symbolising the demands of work, and the abstract paint strokes that seem to overwhelm each other and reflect the inner struggle of his thoughts.

Amid this inner turmoil, there are moments of colourful reveries that evoke his youth and bring joy, structure and vibrancy to his life. These elements manifest as dots and rectangles of different colours scattered throughout the artwork.

The presence of two opposing golden triangle structures, both connected and separate, illustrates the interconnectedness of these conflicting thoughts and experiences. It also symbolises the dual struggle between should and will, maturity and youth, and the eternal struggle between life and death.

Planet 36 invites the viewer on a fascinating journey, exploring the depths of human emotions, aspirations and conflicts. Delve into the detailed textures, textures and colours that adorn this mixed media masterpiece.
