Pontiac GTO on a Sunset Country Road

I painted this Pontiac GTO in the last hour of light, when the day seems to hold its breath. The burgundy hardtop rests on a rustic dirt path, as if it has traveled far and finally found a place to pause. I know that feeling.

With thick impasto strokes, layering paint so heavily it rises from the canvas, I let the sky burn in orange and gold before it softens into lavender, dusty pink, and deep purple. Rolling hills glow in ochre and muted green, while olive trees lean in from the left like quiet witnesses. Long shadows stretch across the earth, reminding me how fleeting every golden moment is.

For the car, I chose smoother brushwork. I wanted the chrome bumper, the split grille, and the hood scoop to catch the warm light and hold it, the way memory holds an autumn evening. Those stacked headlights and the gentle coke-bottle curves carry stories of open roads, youth, and freedom we all recognize.

This painting is my tribute to American muscle and to the stillness that follows motion. It invites you to slow down, stand beside me at the edge of the road, and watch the sun go down together.
