This map is an indirect result of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The organizing committee and Fifa there tried very hard to eliminate any reference to rainbow colors. The result, of course, was counterproductive.
The colors of the rainbow are a result of the refraction of light in water droplets. But in addition, they also figuratively represent multicoloredness, diversity and inclusiveness. Since the 1970s, the rainbow flag has been the symbol of the lgbti community.
The six colors of that Pride flag, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange and red, are used in this world map. I have "translated" the altitude map of our planet into the six colors of the flag. Purple corresponds to low-lying areas, red to high mountains.
To counterbalance those variegated colors, I made the oceans dark gray, ral 9004 to be exact.
By the way, purple also more or less indicates the area that will be flooded when all the polar ice melts, but that's another story.

My work can be located in the border regions of photography, painting and computer visuals. With my company 3Develop I do work in commission but I use the same techniques, skills and software to make free work. I am originally an architect and I live in Rotterdam; for that reason the architecture of that city is a major (but not the only) source of inspiration. But also travel to countries like Iceland and Britain, or walks in the Netherlands, provide much material. Seeing and showing quality and beauty, that is what my work is about.
