View of the Dorsoduro and San Marco neighborhoods in Venice, seen from Giudecca Island in the south. On the quay of that island was a pool of water that beautifully reflected the buildings on the other side. By placing the camera virtually on the ground, I was able to capture the reflection.
The photo shows a nice piece of Venice's history, with the historic buildings that can be seen on it. From left to right these are the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, a baroque church with a large dome that was built between 1631 and 1687. This is truly an icon in Venice.
A little to the right you can see the Campanile, the tower on San Marco square and just as well a clear landmark. Construction of the brick tower started in the ninth century. The tower originally served as a lighthouse and measures 98.5 meters.
The Doge's Palace can be seen on the far right of the photo. Built between 1309 and 1424, it was the residence of the Doge, the head of state of a number of Italian republics.
I enjoy taking pictures of nature, from colorful flowers to the vast landscapes of Scotland and Norway. Photos of European cities can also be found in my shop. Whatever photos they are, I create them with the idea that they really add atmosphere to your home or workplace.
