Schlossallee

The painting captures the magnificent, light-filled atmosphere of an imposing castle avenue in a dreamlike, abstract form. At the centre of the work, a radiant, fluid-looking path of light in warm shades of gold and yellow stretches out, drawing the viewer right into the depths of the space. On either side, shadowy architectural forms and tree-like verticals rise up, evoking a majestic tree-lined avenue before the gates of a historic estate. Thanks to the artist’s multi-layered and delicately glazed painting technique, the structures appear to dissolve gently in the shimmering light. Cool shades of jade, turquoise and soft greens interweave across the lower and side areas, creating a harmonious, balancing contrast to the golden centre. Darker accent shades at the edges of the picture lend the scene a mysterious depth and effectively frame the composition. Vertical colour gradients and delicate smudges convey the impression of a reflective surface or fine sunlight filtering through the gaps between the leaves. The boundaries between the representational backdrop and free colour abstraction merge fluidly and elegantly. Subtle textures and varying degrees of transparency invite the viewer to discover ever-new architectural and natural details with each viewing. Overall, the artwork exudes a sublime, contemplative yet vibrant atmosphere that captures the magic of a fleeting, golden moment on a castle avenue.
